In Loving Memory
The Late Rev. Herbert B. Robinson, Sr.
December 15, 1929--November 23, 2002
For 32 years, Rev. Herbert B. Robinson, Sr. led the
True Love Missionary Baptist Church flock on the road to Heaven.
Well respected and loved by the community and his
congregation, Pastor Robinson was a dedicated and devoted leader, chosen and
anointed by God. He remained steadfast in the Word, always
seeking the Lord in whatever endeavor the church took on. He was a
determined evangelist eagerly seeking to share the
Salvation
Plan to win souls to Christ. He made it a
point to get to know members by name so they would know their Pastor cared.
A knowledgeable counselor and lecturer, Pastor Robinson was often
called upon to speak on many varied
occasions. Every Sunday as he stood
and prepared to share the Word of God with his flock, he reminded them to seek
God first in all things. In unison the congregation would proclaim Proverbs
3:5-6--"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own
understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy
paths." This has become the church motto by which we operate.
Pastor Robinson entered the Christian ministry at the age of 13, one year
following his public confession of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
Prior to coming to True Love, he held pastorates in Mississippi, Tennessee,
Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, and Nebraska, consecutively, 1953 - 1970. He
was elected to the pastorate of True Love in September, 1970, where he began his
full time ministry in December, 1970.
Pastor Robinson served as Second Vice President of the Baptist Missionary and
Education State Congress of Christian Education, and a teacher for the National
Baptist Congress of Christian Education. He was a frequent guest lecturer
in Divorce and Remarriage at William Tyndale Bible College. He was also a
teacher for the Nurturing Baptist Churches Series, and a moderator for the
Prospect District Baptist Association.
He authored four publications in Christian Education, Leadership and
Counseling.
Pastor Robinson was a graduate of Anchor Theological Seminary receiving a B.B.S. He
also attended Wright School of Religion receiving a B. Th., and he attended the Michigan Theological Seminary. Pastor
Robinson was the father of seven children: Jacqueline Robinson Stewart, Linda
Robinson Jamison,
and James Stephen Robinson, all of Memphis, TN. Together with his
wife, Sis. Verdie Robinson, they had four children--Dr. Velton Robinson, Rev. Herbert B.
Robinson, Jr., Rev. Cedric Robinson, and Kevyn Robinson. Pastor Robinson was
called home to Heaven on Saturday, November 23, 2002. Click
